A Cushy Summer

At the beginning of this summer which seems like oh so far away now, I was determined to make the most of my time. One of my goals included doing some ‘fun stuff’. Now ‘fun’ in my book and ‘fun’ in someone else’s are probably very different things. In fact, some might even go so far as to say my ‘fun’ might drive them crazy. But alas, we have to work with what we are given and I feel like I was blessed with a passion for making things. And if it can be sewn, so much the better.

Firstly, I wanted some short projects that wouldn’t stretch out for days on end; ones that I could abandon without guilt and pick up again just as easily. I also was interested in doing some hand sewing and embroidery that would allow me to linger on my porch glider or chat with family while keeping my hands occupied in some productive pursuit.

Secondly, I enjoyed making Posy’s pincushion and it sparked dozens of ideas that could provide me with an opportunity to explore making more. Did I bother to think about what I would do with more pincushions? I certainly did not! I just jumped right in and followed that little idea down that little path wherever she took me. That’s what you get when you hang around with faerie bears!

Lastly, I think I wanted to see if I could actually make something besides a teddy bear. You see, my husband has this theory that my sewing machine only sews on bear fur. That cotton or wool or anything besides mohair might just send it into fits and it would stop working right then and there. Of course, I had to prove his theory had some flaws. I believe my dear ol’ sewing machine is very adept at stitching on just about anything I push under its little presser foot and it does so quite happily I might add.

Now I have four pincushions which I enjoyed making so much. In fact, I want to make some more. But I wanted to find a place for the ones I have. And, guess what?! I did! That place is in my Etsy shop and if you want to go have a gander at what I’ve been up to here and there, you can just click here OR you can go to the link I have in my side bar. That’ll take you there too. Here are a few snippets to give you an idea of what you’ll see there:

  5. If anyone wants to try making a pincushion - I'd say give it a go! They are fun and could be as Dolores says, addictive. Any theme can be made into a pincushion. So if you have a particular leaning for a certain type of decor, you can make a pincushion to go along with it. Enjoy and have fun!

  7. Thank you Gail! That is so sweet. I've got a 'project' which I might detail here in the next little bit and I think it might uncover some more mohair for me to put in my shop. Keep checking - I'm kinda slow but most times I eventually get where I going.
