My Version of Living on the Edge

When I sit working in my studio, I’m usually focused on the task at hand but occasionally my mind will wander. The other day I began to think of how other people have their own ways of living on the edge. Some people like the relatively safe yet exciting thrill of a roller coaster ride. Others might bungee jump or parachute from a perfectly good airplane. I recently read an article about a 53 year old woman who was a librarian by day and was on a roller derby team by night. Then with all the scary movies on at the theater, a lot of folks must get their adrenaline rush from being frightened to death. Do you occasionally live on the edge? Is there something you do that you think of as kind of risky?

Have you ever read the comic Rose is a Rose? I always get a laugh when she morphs into the biker chick. Biker chick Rose is the risk taker – like in this strip when she’s on the tire swing.

Rose Is Rose

I like it because usually Rose is so mild mannered, so calm, so serene – most of the time, but then biker chick pops up now and then.

Then I glanced at myself in the mirror today and realized I too was living on the edge just like Rose. I had pulled out a couple of yards of white mohair and cut some of it into pieces so that I could dye it when I realized my slacks were pitch-black. (I throw caution to the wind like this at least once or twice a week. Sometimes I even mix fur and glitter.) Did it faze me later when I walked out the door with traces of white mohair fur clinging to my outfit? Of course not. What?! I don’t look like a biker chick to you? I could have sworn I caught a glimpse of a leather mini skirt and dark glasses when I passed by that mirror.

  1. You totally crack me up XD

I like to play the driving game when I feel the need for a little adventure and risk.

You get one or a few good friends in the car, and one of you drives out aimlessly while you chat about things that will interest and distract you... then, after a specified amount of time (we usually do an hour), you switch drivers, and without the aid of a map... the new driver has to navigate you home!

We often end up lost... it's not recommended for a day when you have other things to do... but we've found a lot of really interesting local oddities this way!

  2. Hey Heather, That's a new one I haven't heard of before. I'm going to have to add it to my repertoire and go search out my biker boots!
