What are those pieces of paper for?

This is a paraphrase of my husband’s question the other day
when he saw this

and this

and this.

It’s a bit early for this phase in these projects but this is how I ‘sign’ the boxes in my bears&boxes series. It’s one of those things I sometimes leave until the last and hopefully, I won’t forget. I wanted to make sure I remembered this time.

This transfer process begins with the paper adhered with a medium which is left until it is thoroughly, I mean thoroughly, dry. (I learned this the hard way. Impatience has yet to pay off!)

The next step is to use a soft paper towel or cloth, dampened with a bit of water and then the paper is rubbed very gently. (I learned this the hard way. Impatience has yet to pay off! Are you seeing a trend here?)

The paper begins to dissolve to reveal the text underneath.

With a little more coaxing the last of the paper will come away
and I can leave this to dry.

Sealing it will be the last step. There are very few, if any, steps to these boxes that I would consider speedy. If something actually goes quickly, it makes me nervous. The thought that ‘surely I have done something wrong!’ is what goes through my mind.

Thank you for stopping by and checking out my blog. I’m still sewing and working and hope to make some additional progress in the coming days. I promise to post the finished products when I eventually (and finally) complete them.

In the meantime, if you are interested in a collector’s point of view on teddy bear shows, please check back on Wednesday. I hope to see you then!mm_5

  1. Very interesting Ginger. I shall have to try this. How are all the bears... hope they had a wonderful New Year start. You too of course.

  2. Hi Ginger,

That is beautiful. Is there a name for that technique?

  3. Oh what a cool technique. I'd love to try one of these things, but not really sure I'd have the patience!
