A Kitchen Conversation

By some strange alignment of the planets, I left my studio the other day in search of ribbon. It’s not like I don’t have ribbon. I do. I have quite a bit, but of course, I didn’t have the exact ribbon that I thought I needed. But that’s not what this post is about.

When I returned a short time later, I heard quite an animated conversation coming from the kitchen. My first thought was that I had left the radio on – again.

As I got closer, I realized that two of my bears were staring out the window into the back yard engaged in a lively discussion.

One said, “There is no such thing.” And the other responded, “Yes there is.” Then there was a bit of “No, there isn’t” and “Yes there is”, “No, there isn’t”, “Yes, there is”. Finally one of them said, “You have no proof of existence.” The other replied, “Gifts are left. That’s proof!”

This led me to believe they were talking about, you know, S-A-N-T-A but I realized that surely they would have had this conversation back in December. I walked in and the second bear turned to me and said, “Please tell him that there is such a thing.”

I took a look out the window and saw that just slightly beyond the grass, in a thicket of twigs and branches lay three relatively large eggs. Then it dawned on me at once what they were arguing about – the Rabken is back!

(For those of you who don’t know about the Rabken, this silhouette is the best I could do last year. No photo has actually been taken of it.

If you want to know the story of the Rabken, this link will take you to where you can read the almost totally nearly true story. If you already know the story of the Rabken, then you know what I hope to begin working on in the next few days.)
