Do I look nervous to you?

I would love to say that Monday dawned bright and early but this is London. Rather Monday dawned misty, cold and sometimes rainy. But no matter, we had an adventure planned and I doubt if Sebastian would have let us back out of it because of the weather.

Early in my blogging history I posted about a happenstance meeting with a friend of longstanding back in the states. It was so amazing that I wrote about it this blog. If you are the least bit curious – it does make the story better in my opinion – you can read that post by clicking here.

She lives here in the UK so we arranged to get together at her place outside of London. She lives in very close proximity to Pooh. Well, not the actual Pooh bear, but the place he was born and lived and played with Christopher Robin in Ashdown Forest. When Sebastian heard this, there was no such thing as staying in a nice dry hotel room.

We set out only stopping for a quick Cornish Pasty breakfast with a latte on the way to the train station.

There we saw lots of people going different places in different directions and it was very cold. Sebastian still insisted that we forge ahead. (Of course he has a warm fur coat.)

He was so excited to be on the train at last. Then it began to dawn on him where he was going. I took his photo and showed it to him.

He responded by saying, “do I look nervous to you?” After all we were going to the very land of THE Winnie the Pooh and he wasn’t quite emotionally prepared for that momentous occasion.

Nevertheless, Leslie greeted us at the end of our ride and after a drinking a warming cup of tea in an English flat we set off on what seemed like the wrong side of the road to visit Hartfield where the Pooh Corner shop is.

Here are a couple of photos of the village.

The closer we got to Pooh Corner the more nervous Sebastian became. Here’s a photo of Leslie and me in front of the shop. As you can see, Sebastian is nowhere to be seen.

By the time we had investigated every little room in the little shop, there were rumblies in our tumblies. We took a short walk from the shop to a 16th century inn and pub. Need I say that having lunch in a 16th century pub doesn’t happen every day back home?

Can’t say that I remembered to take a photo of our meal but I did catch a snapshot of the dessert before my husband dug in. It was a chocolate tart and it was every bit as delicious as it looks.

We tooled around the English countryside for a while and before we knew it, it was time to take the train back to London. I peeked inside the backpack and Sebastian was sound asleep. I hope the pin that I bought him from Pooh Corner will make him feel a bit better about being so nervous in the land of Winnie the Pooh that he wouldn’t even poke his head out of the backpack. I should probably get him a chocolate biscuit too. Something sweet to eat will probably help.

  1. Hi Miss Ginger,

Oh yes, the Pooh Corner pin and a chocolate biscuit will make my buddy, Sebastian, feel much better.

Ya know, it's a big, sometimes scary world for us little teddy bears. And that is why he loves you so much - you take such good care of him. Snuggling in a nice warm, cozy backpack is a great way to take a nap.

    Hugs,
    Prudence

  2. I'm really envious of your trip, I've always wanted to go see Pooh's birthplace! How crazy that its not really that far from me and I can't make it there but can go to see Pooh in New York :-) x

  3. Did you happen to visit Paddington Station? Wasn't that where the bear with the yellow hat was left?
Tell Sebastian that he just needs to suck it up and pretend he's a famous bear too, afterall he hangs out with a genuine artist. I love you Sebastian.

  4. Well that was a very big adventure for such a little bear! What do you mean you don't have lunch in 16th Century pubs every day? Anyone would think the Pilgrims were terrible puritans ;o)

On a related note, as I was walking away from Hugglets, I ran into a girl I rowed with in Glasgow for years, now living in London, it really is a small world (though perhaps not as serendipitous as you finding your friend)

Looking forward to reading about the next adventures...

  5. I think Sebastian did very well considering his age and all. I am very glad that you are taking good care of him.

  6. What an adventure! I hope you are all enjoying your visit. (Sorry about the weather! It's what we get for living on a rock in the Atlantic!)
