Handwork

One of the best things about doing what I do – creating teddy bears – I’ve said this so many times before – is meeting fantastic and creative people along the way.

If I were to quote myself, it would be this. “I have met some of my best friends through teddy bears.”

Recently, I had the good fortune to be able to create a special bear for a very creative individual.

Her tatting work is very different from mine but I can appreciate the time and patience it takes to do what she does.

In fact, I’d love to learn to do it myself one day, but right now I have my hands full with teddy bears.

You know how teddy bears can be a handful. Well, one can be a handful. More than one – is that handfuls or hands full?

Anyway, it’s lucky for me, she wanted a bear – an artist made bear. I was more than happy to oblige because this little bear is going to keep her company while she creates. Lucky bear.

She sent along some samples of some of her work which I think are quite exquisite.

I readily admit to knowing nothing about tatting but I can see how tatting and teddies could go hand in hand. After all they begin with the same letter, right?

Anyway, here’s her little bear all finished. Say hello to Matilda.

    1. Hi Mäsywi-Bären,

Thanks you so much for the comment on Matilda. The tatting IS beautiful but it isn't mine. This is the work of Bonnie who requested the bear. You can see her blog at this link:

    1. Hi Heather,

The tatting is really just lovely and delicate. I don't know if it is relaxing to tat but it sure is nice to finger it and appreciate the dedication it takes.

      Thanks so much Heather!

  4. Mathilda is lovely with the tatted collar. Tatting is both fun and challenging at times, but it surely goes well with teddies. I enjoy both. I'm sure you'll enjoy tatting when you decide to try it.

    1. Hi Val,

Thanks so much. I think so too. I am sure patience is a virtue with tatting. Maybe one of these days - I'll definitely have to have lessons. Can't see that happening anytime soon so I'll enjoy the work of others! Yours is very creative too!

  5. The tatting is amazing, she does a great job! I have some tatting supplies from...hmm...my great grandma, I think, but I haven't found out how to use them yet. Matilda is so sweet with her little lacy collar!

    1. Hi Jack,

As a bear, your opinion carries more weight! Or it that more wait? Yeah, you get it don't ya?

  7. I'm looking forward to meeting Matilda in person!

The tatted collar gives her an air of sweetness. It will be fun to see what her personality is, and what type of (if any) mischief she finds herself in.

Thank you for doing this special project for me and for this post.

  8. Hi Bonnie,

It was such a pleasure! I hope Matilda will be able stay out of too much trouble. I've been trying to monitor what kinds of advice Sebastian gives her and so far he's been very good and kind and not giving any hints about how to get away with extra cookies and stuff. As I said, the tatting is lovely and I've enjoyed working with it so much. Thanks again!

  10. I've been directed here by Bonnie, and all I can say is, "Wow!" Your teddy bears are amazing! Years ago, before I learned how to tat, I crocheted collars for teddy bears. However, I can see that the tatting far outshines the crochet. I'll be back to see more of your beautiful work!

    1. Hi Diane,

Thank you so much!!! I used to crochet a little and also knit a little. I think I could pick up the crochet but not the knitting. As for tatting - wow! It is amazing - truly amazing work.

Please do come back. We love to meet and enjoy new visitors and friends!

I know Bonnie will love Matilda! And thank you for introducing tatting to your readers! Many people are unaware that tatting is making a big comeback, thanks to the internet!

    1. Hi Kathy,

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit! And I appreciate your comment and compliments. While my bears are sort of small, there are a great many artists who work even smaller and in greater detail if you can imagine!

Tatting is wonderful and I am glad that it is experiencing a revival. It takes so much patience and talent.

Do come back and visit again. I am glad to make your acquaintence!
