Sebastian, the Impressionist

Hang on Sebastian. I’m getting to your bit after this quick explanation.

Today we ventured downtown to see something extra special. By we, I mean the three of us - my husband, Sebastian, and me and by extra special, I mean The Impressionist Garden.

The garden consists of eight life-size bronze sculptures inspired by or based on famous impressionist paintings.

They are instantly recognizable characters if you are even just a tiny bit familiar with artists like Manet and Renoir.

What is cool about them is not only do they bring dimension to famous figures but they are also touchable.

Of course with Sebastian in tow, we had a great time taking photos of them all.  I had an even better time providing captions for the photos I took of Sebastian posing with them.

“I can’t look. Is he still there?”

“Oh no! Now he’s on the other side! Will this madness ever end?!”

“Darling, that is a very big bearie on your chapeau.”

“Don’t tell me it looks ridiculous. I was told this is the latest thing in top hats.”

“We all have our weaknesses. Just be thankful yours is a teddy. It could be much worse. My penchant for strange hats is my undoing.”

“My dear, don’t look now . . .

but you have a bear on your bustle.”

Now it’s your turn. Choose one of the photos below. Write the number of the photo and your caption in a comment. Let’s all have a good laugh!

    1. Hi Mäsywi-Bären,

Thanks so much! The flute/fife player was the smallest figure but very reflective of the painting from which it was inspired. Sebastian rather liked him too!

  4. Hi Sebastian,

Well, I pick #4 "Darling, I do believe there is a small creature on your sleeve. Strangely, "it" smells like chocolate. You are current on all your shots, aren't you?"

"Yes dear, I see "it" just let's hope it doesn't poop on my dress."

Sebastian thinking: "Yuck, I think they are going to kiss. Gross!"

Giggle. I sure hope Mom doesn't read this, I could be in BIG trouble cause I used the "p" word.

    Hugs ♥

    1. That's a good one Kays Kids! Ha ha ha! Wouldn't have thought of that myself but I'm so glad you did! Now I'll never be able to look at that little boy or the painting without thinking about him blowing cold air on Sebastian's - let's just say distant parts!

    3. Now Sebastian, If you want to be a painter you must hold your brush like this.
    4. Darling, there's something coming between us.

    2. Woman thinks - now how long has he been there? I am sure he wasn't there a minute ago. No, he's not there he is just a figment of my imagination! I can't see him!!

    1. Hi Stitching Noni,

I think this exhibit travels but the sculptures will be out and about in Raleigh for the next few months.

Haha. The bear that is or isn't there! Sometimes that what I think too when I can't find things. "Wasn't it here just a minute ago?"

  14. How on earth did we miss this one? I was looking at your Mom's latest blog and I saw this. You all must have had great fun. Alan says he's see'd the originals in Paris and he'd love to see these. Mind you he says they're a bit concrete to be impressions - whatever that means:-)
He wants to know if they did "Dejeuner sur l'herbe" but sculpting all of the trees might have been difficult, never mind the pool. No hats for the ladies though.
    Hugs,
    Jock
