These are photos of things that fell into the following categories:
fun, exciting, challenging, time-consuming, interesting, maddening, fiddly, rewarding, and trying among other others.
Here’s an eye level view of the mushrooms that tend to sprout in the woods. Some of these were vintage and others reproduced. I love them all. Mushrooms! Mushrooms! Mushrooms!
This is a portion of the pathway. You can’t really tell from any of the photos I took but I added a bit of reflective sheen to the slate for a slightly wet look.
These are some decorations I’ve had for quite a while. It was a good match for this project when I rediscovered them among my supplies.
This tiny terrarium was a pleasure to create. It took about a nickel’s worth of supplies it was so small. It was another case of learning as I go. I took some really cool photos of a few terrariums I saw in my research. Now I’ve developed a thing for terrariums but I’ve managed to resist so far. I have a fear that I could easily manage to send said terrarium residents to their demise.
Onto the treats!
This is a tiered cupcake stand. Whatever possessed inspired me to make it gets a gold star. I needed the wood sliced very thin from certain sections of the logs so when I proposed the idea to my husband woodcutter; did he look at me as if I’d lost my mind? Heck no! He’s so conditioned to my oddball requests that he didn’t blink an eye. I think he asked me “Do you need them now?” I love that man!
For this next photo all I’m going to say is around here do you know how rare it is to find nutshells when it’s not the Christmas season? After poking around in various places we located what I needed. Wild goose chases are nothing new here. As I mentioned previously, the acorn tops I had collected months and months ago. They were just the right bowls for some blueberries.
My dear little cherries needed a serving dish too. It turned out a tiny bird’s nest was just the thing.
Here’s a look at some of the candles I made that didn’t go to the great beyond. I was aiming for a beeswax effect. Those tiny burned wicks were – um – let’s say they were wick-ed? Horrible, horrible pun! No, they were just incredibly tiny and when they fell on the floor they looked like tiny little bugs. For them the hemostats definitely came in handy.
Finally, leaf plates filled with all manner of goodies – room for a little bit of everything except the cupcakes. And the wooden drinking cups? My idea and specifications; woodcutter man’s triumph.
That pretty much covers the diminutive details. Next time I’ll be posting photos of the entire piece. I think by now you probably have a pretty good idea of where this is going. Speaking of going, I better get going myself. These bears don’t make themselves. And if they did, I’d be out of a job!
Hmmm... it is all taking place as I suspected. I love the strawberry cake. I didn't see that one coming.

Oh the cupcakes match the mushrooms - love it!! The details on this little scene are incredible, from the candles to the little terrarium. I still love the little berries. Love the wooden drinking cups too - you have a talented woodcutter!
ReplyDeleteHi Kay Joy,
DeleteWhen I had the idea for the cupcakes it was a no-brainer. I do appreciate your mentioning all the little things too. My woodcutter will be smiling - he's my unsung hero! Thanks for all the comments. :)

Hi Ginger
ReplyDeleteI have read the other comments and I must agree, your berries, mushrooms and cupcakes are just magnificant. I am going to have to have a look at your previous blog to see how you made the berries - they are just phenominal. It is all just fantastic - especially the little terrarium. I just wish I had 10% of your imagination - if I did I would be extremely happy. I wish my husband was "keen" to help me with my craft - I ask him even just to look at what I have created and he gets this glassy eyed look and just says "looks good".
Love Jo
Hi Jo,
DeleteWow - thank you very much! I plan to create a tutorial for the cherries - not difficult at all. The terrarium was fun - challenging but fun. The fiddliest bit was making the tiny mushrooms from polyclay. Aw - now you know you've got just as much imagination as me! Thanks so much for reading and for your sweet comment!
