How Sebastian Passed the Time at the Show

For a little while Sebastian was quite content to pretend like he was a Christmas tree by draping the light strand around his neck. He thought it was neat to be lit up and I allowed him his fun because the bulbs were not the kind that burn hot.

Then after he tired of that he decided he would see what was happening on the ‘other side’ of the table. He was both excited and perplexed when he met a giant bear about a million times bigger than he is. She was quite sweet and gentle so he agreed that this was a great photo opportunity.

And yes, he did actually say, “My, what big eyelashes you have.” Reminded me of Little Red Riding Hood but that was no wolf in bear’s clothing I assure you. I think it’s kind of cute the way he’s got his paw up to his mouth as if he saying “Sh-h-h-h.”

His next adventure was fortuitous. Of course that depends on how you look at it. He said he was going off to find himself a friend and when he found one he would be back.

He was enamored of this table with all kinds of bears from everywhere. And while he loved them all, he really was looking for someone about his size with whom he could share snacks and play games.

hsptats_4

He zeroed in on these guys.

hsptats_5

He seemed to be enamored of these two friends but they were quite different – in style, species and color even though the same artist created them. You know how that goes, don’t you? I certainly do.

Sebastian walked back and forth, back and forth. He didn’t want to hurt any feelings but choosing a new friend is serious business and only the chooser can decide. Once or twice he wondered aloud if he wouldn’t twice as happy with two friends or even three times as happy with three, but I told him we only had so much room in the car.

Once he decided, he introduced me to Katie. I think her name is really Kutie but if he wants to call her Katie, who am I to say? He kept telling her, we have loads of peanuts in the cupboard at home.

hsptats_8

Currently, they are exploring all the cabinets and I’m fairly certain that there will be a few cookie crumbs on the counter when they are done.

They seem to be quite happy at home in the studio.

  1. Sebastian had so much fun! Was tough looking for a good friend to bring home, wasn't it? All the other guys must be totally jealous he took Katie (Kutie). Hello to Kutie, and Sebastian, of course.

    1. Hi Val,

Sebastian surely deliberated for an adequate amount of time. I'm sure if I had given him the green light he could have chosen a few others in half the time!

      Thanks so much!

    2. Hello Val,

Sebastian here. Katie wanted me to tell you hello. She is working on learning the keyboard arrangement but until then she said I could type for her.

      Hello from me too!
      hugs,
      Sebastian

    1. Hi Ladytats,

Thank you! I think so too. Katie is very calm and she likes the same kinds of cookies as me. She also said with her trunk the cookie crumbs will be no trouble. Thanks for the advice!

      hugs,
      Sebastian

    1. Hi Janice,

I am glad that so many thought Sebastian made a good choice. I think you may be right about peanuts. I looked at the running grocery list we keep and there were four different kinds of peanuts listed on it in very familiar handwriting!

  4. Sebastian, I am nearly jumping out of my pants with excitement. (That is if I wore any) I love your new friend Katie. You look so good together and I know how much fun you are about to have.

    1. Hi Wilbur,

You must come over and meet my Katie sometime. She is very good at spying! She can hold a mirror with her trunk and then reach it around a corner and no one is the wiser. It makes sneaking up on people so much easier. She also squeaks occasionally when she laughs and that is hilarious.

      hugs,
      Sebastian

  5. Hi Sebastian, Hi Katie;

Welcome to blogging, Katie. Sebastian, I know you will show Katie how to post and share stories. Now you have a little sister to look after - that makes you a BIG brother.

We love ellies, and Katie is a cutie-pie.

    Hugs

    1. Hi Prudence,

Katie says to tell you hello. She is impressed about how many friends I already have and is confused about why I thought I needed another. I told her that it was exactly need as you and Wilbur and Jack and all my other friends are great it was just that I wanted a new friend. The best way to get one is to say I needed one!

      hugs from us both,
      Sebastian

    1. Hi Elanor,

I am sure you would have an ally in Sebastian on that front. He had a difficult time choosing. But luckily Katie is such a great friend that he has almost forgotten about the others - almost. It won't be easy taking him to shows now. We've set a precedent.

    1. Hi Jack,

I think if we got Katie and the donkey together maybe she could show him the ropes. Then you could ride him and he could take you places that would be too far for you to walk - especially when your staff is being uncooperative.

I'm glad you are back although it was fun reading about your adventures. Aren't you one lucky bear?!

      hugs,
      Sebastian

    1. Hello Heather,

I'm not quite sure - are you talking about me? If so, well thank you. Or are you talking about Katie? If so, I agree...I have good taste in friends. Other than those two options, I am at a loss. So I'm thinking you must be talking about the two of us. We do make quite a striking pair don't we? Thank you for being such a nice person!

      hugs,
      Sebastian

  9. Hello Ginger and Sebastian, I just visited your blog and to my surprise found you have adopted Kutie, what a treat for me. I love how you take on the perspective of the little ones. Thank you so much for her adoption, I know she went to a good home, bear hugs, Judy Mathis

    1. Hi Judy,

Sebastian here. I have to say thanks to you that I have a very good and sweet friend. I have been told I must set a good example but I never make any promises I can't keep. I was given instructions to tell you that we both wished that we could have brought home more than Kutie/Katie but alas, we may have to work on our big sad eyes look to manage that. Oh, and I sort of like the name Kutie Katie. It fits her very nicely.

      hugs,
      Sebastian

  10. Ginger,
How wonderful of you to open your house to a friend of Sebastians. Not that you aren't generous because you truly are, but now you have added another mouth to feed.

    Sebastian,
I can tell that you choose your friends wisely. Katie looks to be made of good stuff, and I don't mean that literally. What I mean Sebastian is her heart appears to be in the right place. You can tell it by looking at her eyes. They really are pretty aren't they? It looks like you will have a starry future ahead if the soles of her feet have anything to do with it. Have fun my dear!

    1. Hi Terri Sue,

What a very nice comment to read. Thank you. Although I must say it's not a very big mouth to feed and peanuts are pretty easy!
