The Preview Piece for Christmas Treasures

If you are reading this then it must be after 4pm on November 2 and that means I can share my Preview piece for the Teddies Worldwide Christmas Treasures Online Show.

The theme for this year’s show is Christmas Carols. Let’s see if you can figure out which one my piece represents.

I started with this box – a little tall to begin with so naturally I altered it by trimming it down a bit.

Then I thought it would be fun to drive myself crazy by cutting out all these little rectangles. Hey, some people go to the islands, some people sit at their desk and cut rectangles.

Next, it was placement. Placement and glue. I must have a thing for glue because it seems the most interesting projects to work on involve some sort of glue.

Here is the box with the rectangles in place. Now it is starting to turn into something.

I added paint and some texture. You can tell where this is going now, can’t you?

tpp_5

Here it is fully transformed from a plain box into a chimney. You did guess chimney, right?

tpp_6

From the very beginning I envisioned snow so getting to this point is where I see it all coming together.

tpp_7

Then I kept getting ideas for details. A few decorations seemed in order.

I also had this chap in my head from the very beginning – from the black of his boots to his fur trimmed mittens to the tiny jingle bell on his cap.

Now the piece is complete with a sack full of toys stuffed in the chimney, the sweet reindeer with a suspiciously red nose that I found recently in just the right size (don’t let that mislead you) and a dear little Santa bear.

The fun thing about this piece is you can display it from either side. The toy sack comes out of the chimney so if you want to stand Santa in the chimney you can do that too. So there it is. Have you guessed what the Christmas carol is yet? If you want to see if you were right, click here.

Of course, there are going to be 84 other preview pieces to see as well.  If you want to see them all, click on the banner below.  You can also vote for your favorite once you are there.  Go!  See!  Have fun!  Grab a little Christmas spirit!

  6. Hi there,

We thought we'd commented earlier, but obviously not.

Jock tried very hard to think of the right song and he started singing when he was sure he'd got it.

"When Santa got stuck up the chimney, he began to shout,
You girls and boys won't get any toys if you don't pull me out."

He was very disappointed to get the wrong one, but we both like the bear and the reindeer and we think you're very clever indeed.

    Hugs,

    Jock and Alan
