A Wacky and Weird Wednesday

Hi ho. Sebastian here. I have a few photos to share with you that are quite unlike any that I have been in before. You see when I am on the road I keep an eye out for the unusual and sometimes I find it. It’s called Roadside America because, you know, you find these places on the side of the road on your way to somewhere else. By description, they are “offbeat tourist attractions” and sometimes the “offbeat” part is an understatement.

Back just before I was a twinkle in someone’s imagination, they stopped at the famous “Cadillac Ranch” in Amarillo, Texas. I would have loved to have seen that!

Now that I am here, most of the time I get my photo made when we stop, as long as it’s safe and I’m not taking a nap.

The last trip we were on not too long ago we stopped at a couple of places. Here’s the first one which I thought looked rather yummy. An ice cream shop that looks like – drumroll please – an ice cream!

Not too far from that I had my photo made here.

Not impressed?

How about now?

What if you back up just a little bit further?

Now I’m so tiny you can’t even see me. I’m just a speck on Abraham Lincoln’s beard. This is a small replica of sorts of Mount Rushmore. We weren’t quite sure what to make of it but hey, not everyone can say they got to sit on ol’ Abe’s beard.

Then I had my picture taken here. Any guesses?

This surely gives it away, right?

It’s a version of The Statue of Liberty.

Not quite as grand at the real one but well, it wouldn’t be called Roadside America if it was. It would be called The Statue of Liberty.

I might as well throw this one in for good measure. This was Presidents Nixon, Ford and Carter’s Cadillac. I think it must have looked a lot grander back in 1973 when it was new.

I’ll be on the road again heading to the teddy bear show very soon and maybe we’ll stumble upon one or two offbeat tourist attractions. If we do, I’ll try to get my picture taken. Wish me luck!

love & hugs,

  2. Hi dear Mari,

Thank you for reading about my adventures! They are definitely curious aren't they? But I'm a bear of great curiosity so I like discoveries even if they are a bit weird!

I will take lots of photos!

  3. Oh we do love the random roadside pics, and Jack has been invited on a drive into the Highlands by special request by a visiting American friend this weekend, so he's gearing up to find as many weird places to stop as possible...

    Hugs

    1. Hi Jack,

Well, of course you would be invited. I mean, what kind of tour would it be without the bestest Highland tour guide there is. Make sure you throw in a little of your Southern accent if you haven't lost it completely. That will make them feel right at home or send them running from the room.

Oh and take lots of pictures so we can see what places you get to see.

      hugs,
      ~Sebastian

  4. Wow you do travel Sebastian. I'm sure we will get lots of pictures of you on the exciting trip to the bear show. You did look like a speck of dust on Lincoln's bears. He must have been very big.
Tell your mum we will be thinking of her at the bear show.
    hugs Wilbur and Granny.

    1. Hi Wilbur and Granny,

I hope I get to see something interesting but if not, there will be lots of bears to visit with. Can you imagine how tremendous the real Mount Rushmore is? You'd never be able to see me for sure!

I'll pass along your message and I'm sure she'll be grateful for the good wishes!

      hugs,
      Sebastian

  5. Hiyo Seb my bearther,
You look like you've been having loads of fun. I am quite jealous - his nibs hasn't even written up the Commonwealth Games and our stroll on Hadrian's wall. This week he went all over England and even to Holland and he left me behind!

Have as much fun as you can, and you have good staff who actually remember to write up your travels.

    Hugs,

Jock (Sitting on my motorbike with a petted lip), and all the rest over here.
