For those of you who have been following along with the construction/creation/making-of my one-of-a-kind gallery piece for TBAI, today’s photos show the piece in its entirety. Thank you for sticking with me through the process!
First, let’s meet the little fairy teddy that occupies the space. She is 5” tall and a very well read bear. As you can see she loves books! Her skirt and wings have the subtle indication of a story and she carries a book in either hand. One of them is miniature version of a very old storybook that one of my great-aunts had – I would say it’s from the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. I like including personal tidbits in these pieces if I can somehow work it out.
Let’s return to the Big Book box starting with the outside. The images on the front and back are in three dimensional frames. I had two just alike in my supplies (fortuitous) and they were exactly the right size for the spot I had for them (serendipity? Or something else?)
Here is the front.
Here you see both sides. And I counted the books (including the ones that form the stairway in my last post) and there are 126 of them. I don’t know what the compensation is in counting them but there you go.
A closer look at the left side. (You can click on the photo for a larger view.)
And the right side without the ted in place.
This is the base and the big book together from the back side
and from the front before it has been lit. The Big Book is easily put in place – a very good and secure fit.
This is the whole piece from the front with the lights turned on. It might be difficult to discern in these photos but the lights are purple and the flowers are a lavender color. Access to the batteries for the lights is very simple – right under the Big Book.
Working on this was sometimes hot and sweaty, often messy, challenging and thought-provoking. I loved every single minute of creating it. I hope you enjoy these photos! You can view this piece in person at the TBAI Gallery on Friday night, August 15th. It will be available for purchase then or later, if it’s still available. Come and join us for some extreme fun!
