Baking Lessons

I thought today would be an appropriate time to share this photo of a somewhat older piece I made quite a number of years ago. I created it based on the theme of Memories and called it Baking Lessons. It was inspired by moments from my childhood similar to the one captured here in the form of teddy bears.

Here the Mama bear is teaching her young cubs to bake. She has the essential tools including measuring spoons and a bear sized grater. She also has the necessary ingredients including sugar, flour, butter and eggs.

Mama bear begins the lesson by donning the proper attire for baking: an apron. But her cubs are a bit small for her apron stash so she does the next best thing. She gathers up three small cloths and ties one around each of their waists.

The little bears are a tad short so they gather up three stools to stand on so they can see everything she is doing. The stools are also good for spinning on when they get a bit distracted. Mostly, I think they are waiting to lick the bowl. I know this because that is what I used to do. Of course, my dear husband would say “What do you mean ‘used to do’?!”

These are some delicious memories. I hope you have some of time spent with your Mom too!

  1. Aww, so cute! And just think, now your cubs have flown the coop, you get the bowl and spoon to lick all to yourself... ;o)

  3. @ Katy - Thanks! And sometimes I kind of - sort of - have to share with someone else who also likes to lick the bowl from time to time.

@ Joanne - Thanks. You are kind.

@ Doris - Thank you too. Can't imagine what I was thinking when I decided to make THREE cubs - each one smaller than the other. :-)
